Meaning of Japanese MIC Certification:
Japanese MIC certification is commonly referred to as TELEC certification. From a technical perspective, the term MIC certification is more professionally accurate. MIC certification constitutes the mandatory type approval required for radio equipment, serving as the compulsory certification for wireless products entering the Japanese market. It imposes no factory inspection requirements but necessitates an ISO certificate or recognised quality control documentation. The MIC in MIC certification stands for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), which oversees Japan's Radio Law and Telecommunications Business Act. Previously, the Radio Law certification was termed TELEC certification within the industry; colloquially, MIC certification is equivalent to TELEC certification.
Applicable Products:
Testing requirements for WiFi and Bluetooth products are largely similar to the European standard EN 300 328. For 2.4GHz WiFi products (802.11b/g, 2412–2472MHz) and Bluetooth products, the applicable standard is MIC Notice No. 88 Annex 43. However, the 14th channel (Channel 14: 2471–2497MHz) for 2.4GHz WiFi products requires separate testing and reporting under Annex 44.
For 5GHz WiFi products (802.11a, 5180–5320MHz, W52 Band and W53 Band), the testing standard is Annex 45. However, it should be noted that documentation indicates MIC will soon amend Annex 45 to include 5.6GHz devices (Band W56) under this annex, imposing stricter DFS testing requirements for the Band 56 frequency band.
