For Type-C export products, the 2026 rules to follow are essentially these three: the connector and cable fall under USB Type-C 2.4 (issued end of 2024, already at 2.5 by April 2026); fast charging follows PD 3.2; high speed follows USB4 2.0 (the 2022 edition). The three govern different things, so confirm the exact version with the lab before submission — do not file under an old standard and lose time to a return.
One more often-missed point: the external marking rules changed too. The old practice of printing a version number like "USB 3.2 Gen 2×2" on the packaging meant nothing to buyers; now it is unified into printing speed and power directly. On the surface this is a brand rule, but it is actually part of certification — a wrong mark blocks you just the same.
A pure-charging receptacle now follows its own path. This interface can drop the high-speed data pins and keep only the fourteen core pins needed for power and communication, saving small appliances and low-power devices money. The public reading of Type-C 2.4 repeats this point as a genuinely landed change.
The spec requires D+ and D− to be shorted inside the connector and not routed out to the external PCB; the exact value follows the Type-C 2.4 text — get it wrong and you rework and re-tool.
VCONN rated current, right-angle plug mechanical dimensions, and the addition of the 12.8 GHz point to USB4 high-speed cable testing all belong to spec-level adjustments; the details follow the current Type-C 2.4/2.5 text, so have the lab verify against the actually enforced version before submission.
Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) is the headline of this version. Power supplies above 27 W output must support AVS, with voltage stepped in 100 mV increments — finer than the old fixed steps. For multi-port charger makers, this directly constrains your solution selection.
Fast Role Swap (FRS) matters only in multi-device coordination like a laptop docking to an expansion hub; whether it moved from optional to mandatory follows the current PD 3.2 CTS — do not write it into your solution as settled fact.
How a multi-port charger shares power must be spelled out. The product must declare and verify its inter-port power-sharing strategy; do not gloss over it.
USB4 2.0 pushes bandwidth to 80 Gbps, and via lane reconfiguration reaches an asymmetric 120 Gbps, carrying DisplayPort 2.1 and PCIe 4 signals. On the power side it carries forward PD 3.1's EPR up to 240 W; PD 3.2 continues to use it.
The marking rule stands out among this year's changes. Packaging and cables print only a speed like "80Gbps" or "40Gbps", or a power like "240W" or "60W"; the version number moves to the back.
Companies should note: correct use of the new marks has itself become a certification requirement — you do not print whatever you like. An 80 Gbps product carrying a misleading mark gets sent back for correction.

In the EU, the deadline lands this year: from 28 April 2026, laptops sold in the EU must meet the common-charger requirement and obtain a declaration of conformity under the IEC 62680 compliance system.
Keep the two roads distinct: "full certification" and "regulatory compliance." The former is the voluntary quality certification that earns a TID and the right to use the certified mark; the latter only meets the legal floor — lower cost, shorter cycle, but no "Certified USB" mark for external use. For the EU market, pick by purpose; do not conflate the two.
