BQB certification documentation may seem straightforward, but many stumble. Bluetooth SIG's file requirements are meticulous – missing one document, filling in a single field incorrectly, or mismatching the test plan with the actual product – all lead to rejection.
1.1 SIG Membership
The prerequisite for BQB is Bluetooth SIG membership. Adopter membership is USD 0/year; Associate has separate fees. Most companies register as Adopter – certification processes and test requirements are identical to Associate; the difference is early access to specification documents and voting rights. Registration requires the company's legal English name, registered address, and contact details. The English name will appear in the QDID and public database – choose wisely; later changes are troublesome.
1.2 Authorisation Letter
In BQB, the authorisation letter is primarily used when a certified Bluetooth module supplier authorises you to reference its QDID. If your product uses a BQB‑certified module, obtain the authorisation letter from the module manufacturer – use its QDID for derivative certification, skipping full RF testing. Brand‑owner authorisation to a contract manufacturer – SIG rules do not recognise this scenario.
2. Product Technical Documents
2.1 Product Specification Sheet
This is the heaviest document in BQB certification. It must include: product name, model number, Bluetooth version (5.0 to 5.4), supported Profiles, operating bands, maximum transmit power, and antenna specifications. The Profile list is critical – every Profile listed must be tested; none can be skipped. Conversely, if a Profile is not supported, do not list it in the spec sheet or test plan.
2.2 Circuit Diagrams and Block Diagrams
Circuit diagrams must cover the Bluetooth RF front‑end, antenna matching network, and power‑supply filtering. The block diagram should show the overall product architecture, clearly indicating the Bluetooth module's position. If using a certified module, provide the module's reference design circuit.
2.3 Antenna Specification Sheet
The antenna spec sheet must include: antenna type (PCB, ceramic, external), gain, radiation pattern, impedance, and operating frequency. Antenna gain directly affects EIRP calculations – incorrect gain values lead to wrong test‑result determinations. For external antennas, provide the antenna manufacturer's original datasheet.
3. Test Plan Documents
3.1 Test Plan Generation
The BQB test plan is generated using SIG's Launch Studio tool. Enter product information (Bluetooth version, Profile list, operating modes) – it automatically outputs the test‑case list. The lab executes tests against this plan – the test plan is the execution blueprint.
3.2 Profile Test Scope
Each Bluetooth Profile has its own test specification. A2DP tests audio‑stream reliability; HFP tests call establishment and voice quality; BLE tests GATT service and characteristic interactions. Golden rule: only list Profiles your product actually supports – listed Profiles must be fully tested – no selective testing. Adding new Profiles later requires supplementary testing.
4. Test Reports and Declaration Documents
4.1 RF Test Report
The RF test report is issued by a BQTF (Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility). The BQTF executes tests and generates the formal report – covering transmit power, receiver sensitivity, adjacent‑channel rejection, modulation characteristics, and other RF parameters. The BQE (Bluetooth Qualification Expert) does not execute tests or issue reports – their role is to review and assess the BQTF's report and the entire certification project. The report format must follow SIG's specified template – raw test records must be retained for audit.
4.2 Profile Test Reports
Profile conformance test reports are also issued by the BQTF and reviewed by the BQE. Each Profile has its own report – containing test‑case lists, results (Pass, Fail, Incomplete), test‑environment configuration, and test equipment details.
4.3 Declaration of Conformity (DoC)
The DoC is a declaration signed by the applicant – stating product compliance. It must be signed and stamped by an authorised company representative – in English. The signature date must not predate the test report issue date.
5. QDID Application and Listing
5.1 QDID and Listing Process
The process has four steps:
·Create a qualification project in Launch Studio – it automatically assigns a QDID.
·Execute tests according to the test plan and generate reports.
·Purchase a Declaration ID.
·Use this Declaration ID to reference the QDID, list all designs using this product, and sign the DoC to complete listing.
QDID application and listing are two separate things – do not conflate them.
5.2 Listing Fees
Listing fees depend on membership type:
·Adopter: USD 12,000 per design (from March 2026).
·Associate: 50% discount – USD 6,000 per design.
One QDID covers one product design. For multiple models with the same Bluetooth solution, they can be listed under the same QDID as Subordinate Listings – significantly reducing fees.
5.3 ICS File
The ICS (Implementation Conformance Statement) is a document declaring which Bluetooth Core Specification features and Profile features your product supports. The ICS must strictly align with the test plan – it is a core review document. Incomplete ICS or mismatches with actual product functionality will result in rejection.
5.4 Certification Status
BQB certification has no fixed validity period. Once a product obtains a QDID and completes listing, the certification status is theoretically permanent. Issues only arise in two cases:
·Design changes (antenna replacement, RF circuit modification, Bluetooth protocol‑stack upgrade).
·Violation of trademark or membership rules.
Otherwise, there is no expiry.
