Huawei HiCar Certification: How the Process Runs from Developer Account to Certificate

2026-09-16

Meta description: How does Huawei HiCar certification run, end to end? We cover the seven steps - Developer Alliance verification, the ecosystem memorandum, DevicePartner access, SDK self-testing, authorised laboratory testing and Huawei's review - plus certificate validity and the equivalent-testing route.

1.Check Which Huawei Track You Are Actually On

Any conversation with a head-unit customer gets to HiCar certification within the first minute. Huawei's Developer Alliance site carries the full access set for in-car connectivity: the process, who runs the testing, who reviews the results, and how the certificate is issued. HiFind keeps getting pulled into the same conversation, but that belongs to Huawei's automotive BU and covers reverse car-finding. The two are separate lines of business, and a partner will notice the moment they cross-check a mixed-up document.

2.Steps One to Three: Verification, Memorandum and Platform Access

Corporate verification. Register a company account on the Huawei Developer Alliance and complete real-name verification. The entity details must line up with the qualification documents and the contract signed later. Get the entity wrong here and the whole chain is rebuilt from the start.

The ecosystem cooperation memorandum. Once verification clears, both sides sign the in-car connectivity cooperation memorandum, which fixes the scope of collaboration and the commercial framework. It is not a testing commission - it locks the relationship in place before anything else moves.

DevicePartner platform access. Only after the memorandum does Huawei open DevicePartner permissions. Projects are created there, and test cases and documents are submitted there. HiFind sits on another line entirely, so HiCar only recognises this connectivity ecosystem entry point.

3.Step Four: SDK Integration and Self-Testing

Integrate the HiCar SDK into the head unit and run the platform test cases, with full coverage and a clean pass. Audio routing, video output, the Bluetooth link and key-press interaction are hard thresholds. Keep the self-test evidence in good order, and sample intake at the laboratory runs smoothly. Other items fail more often than teams expect, including wireless connection stability, security compliance and UX interaction specifications, so a good feeling about the build is not a reason to ship samples early.

4.Steps Five and Six: Laboratory Selection and Sample Submission

Once self-testing passes, select a Huawei-authorised laboratory online through the DevicePartner platform and sign the test service agreement. That agreement is a commercial contract between the manufacturer and the third-party laboratory, and Huawei does not intervene in it. It can run in parallel with sample preparation, so it should not be treated as a gate standing in front of Huawei access.

For acceptance testing, the sample must match mass production with the firmware locked; a late board change will trigger retesting. Bench counts differ slightly between official guidance and industry practice. Huawei's submission baseline is two benches plus one complete vehicle. In practice, front-installation projects usually prepare three benches, keeping the spare for fault isolation, while aftermarket projects need one or two sets and no vehicle. Always take the current notice published on the DevicePartner platform as the governing figure.

5.Step Seven: Huawei's Review and the Certificate

The laboratory report goes up, Huawei reviews it and spot-checks the key test items. On approval, an electronic certificate is generated in the project backend and the product enters the compatibility list. HiCar issues electronic certificates only, with no paper counterpart, which business customers ask about regularly - explaining it early saves a round of correspondence.

6.Certificate Validity and Renewal

Under the 2026 V6.0 specification, a HiCar certificate is valid for one year across the board, front-installation and aftermarket alike. Renewal should start three months before expiry, and the validity shown in the DevicePartner backend is the figure that counts. Do not treat a number lifted from an older source as a commitment when a project is being planned.

Where the core hardware and software have not changed materially, an equivalent test can be applied for. Equivalent A requires a sample; equivalent B reviews documents only. Either route can retire part of the test case list. Renewal is not a formality - a subset of core cases still has to run. Change the chipset or the communications module and neither equivalent testing nor renewal is available; the product goes through full certification again, with Huawei's documentation as the final word.

7.HiCar and HiFind Are Not the Same Business

HiCar comes with complete official documentation and an executable process. HiFind belongs to Huawei's automotive BU and has no separate certification documentation published on the Developer Alliance. Because the two sit on independent business lines, schedules and costs cannot be carried across from one to the other, and they deserve separate treatment in any planning document.

8.Where Projects Usually Lose Time

Three things knock a HiCar project off schedule. Entity details that fail to match between the Developer Alliance account and the contract signed later send the whole chain back to the beginning. A sample that no longer matches the submitted firmware, or a board changed after submission, triggers retesting and puts the project at the back of the queue. And self-test gaps on wireless stability, security compliance and UX interaction surface as first-pass failures at the laboratory, where every remediation round costs more than fixing the same issue in-house would have.

Running the laboratory agreement in parallel with sample preparation, rather than after it, is the one scheduling move that costs nothing and buys two to four weeks.

For manufacturers running HiCar and Bluetooth BQB on the same head unit, BlueAsia completes the pre-testing for both workstreams on a single sample, which removes one round of sample preparation.
