1.1 Applicable ETSI standards
DAB receivers exported to the EU follow RED 2014/53/EU Article 3.2 – the harmonised standard is EN 303 345 series. Consumer and automotive DAB receivers are low‑risk radio receivers – after RF and EMC tests, the manufacturer issues a DoC – no NB required.
Domestic ILAC‑accredited labs can perform tests – receiver performance, unwanted conducted/radiated spurious – typical RMB 5,000–10,000. For DAB+FM+AM triple‑band products, you must cover EN 303 345‑2 (AM), ‑3 (FM), and ‑4 (DAB) – all test items must be covered, but they can be combined in one report – many agents split them into three to charge more.
1.2 When is an NB actually required?
Only public‑safety communications equipment and high‑power broadcast base stations legally require NB type‑examination. Normal head units and home radios do not – many agents add NB fees unnecessarily – check before accepting.
1.3 DAB audio decoding tests
Legacy DAB uses MPEG‑1 Audio Layer II; DAB+ uses HE‑AAC v2. Audio decoding conformance is not an EU RED mandatory item – it is only verified during WorldDAB logo testing. 2. WorldDAB Logo Authorisation Fees

2.2 EWF (Emergency Warning) test
WorldDAB 4.0 makes EWF mandatory – the device must switch to the emergency channel within 5 seconds of receiving the alert flag – required for the WorldDAB Logo.

If your RF chip solution is already pre‑tested in the WorldDAB database, some chip‑level tests can be reduced – savings typically RMB 2,000–5,000, depending on pre‑test document completeness.
Unregistered chips can still apply – they just need additional baseline tests – the claim that “unregistered chips double the cost” is a marketing myth – no official rule supports it.
