Mexican NOM Safety Certification | 2026 Update

NOM is Mexico’s mandatory electrical safety certification, supervised by the Ministry of Economy (SE) and issued by ANCE, NYCE. Without valid NOM, products cannot clear customs.

I. Applicable Products & Key 2026 Standards

·NOM-001-SCFI-2018: AV/IT/communication (equivalent to IEC 62368-1)

·NOM-003-SCFI-2014: household appliances (equivalent to IEC 60335)

·Wireless products: NOM + IFT certification

  II. CB/UL/CSA Mutual Recognition

CB reports are accepted and can reduce testing but do not guarantee direct NOM issuance. Mexican national deviations still apply.

  III. Laboratory Requirements

Testing only in EMA-approved labs, mostly local Mexican facilities.

  IV. Validity & Renewal

·Standard: 1 year (full re-application required)

·Some wireless: up to 3 years with annual docs

·Start renewal 3 months before expiration

  V. EMC & Energy Efficiency

·EMC mandatory for most electronics

·Energy efficiency certification (NOM-016, NOM-029, NOM-030) required for appliances, lighting, power supplies

  VI. 2026 Wireless Regulation Update

·Certification body renamed to IFT

·NOM-220-SCFI-2025 mandatory 1 May 2026 for 5G and RF performance

  VII. Certification Process

1.Confirm HS code and standard

2.Appoint Mexican certificate holder

3.Prepare Spanish technical documents

4.Complete safety, EMC, energy testing

5.Issue certificate after review

6.Use authorized NOM mark
