Ask five people what MIC (Giteki) certification costs, and you will get five different answers – from RMB 6,000 to RMB 25,000 for the same Bluetooth speaker. The difference is not the certificate – it is how each agency calculates fees. MIC (Giteki) costs are split into: test fees, review fees, agent fees – plus some hidden costs. The regulator is MIC (Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications); TELEC, JQA, UL Japan are the RCBs that issue certificates.
Test fees are the largest cost – based on how many wireless bands your device uses.

2.4 GHz Channel 14 (802.11b only) – if your firmware enables Ch14, it must be tested separately. ARIB standards only allow Ch14 in 802.11b mode – devices fixed to Ch1–13 can apply for exemption. Bluetooth/BLE do not support Ch14 at all – no such test exists – reject it if an agency adds it. Missing it → RCB rejection.
2. Review Fees, Agent Fees, and Annual Costs
·RCB review fee – charged by TELEC, JQA, UL Japan (each has its own pricing) – typical range RMB 3,000–5,000.
·Japanese local agent annual fee – foreign manufacturers must appoint a Japanese legal entity (importer or local representative) to hold Japanese technical files for at least 5 years. This is a long‑standing legal requirement – not new in 2025 – only enforcement was tightened. Annual fee: RMB 2,000–4,000.
·Translation + compliance proofreading – if you cannot do it in‑house – RMB 1,000–3,000.
·Nameplate – must be permanently etched or silkscreened with the Giteki mark and certification number – stickers are non‑compliant.

4. 2026 Cost Trends
Overall, MIC costs have stabilised, but watch:
·6 GHz – no AFC in Japan – Japan currently only opens 5925–6425 MHz for indoor low‑power. AFC (Automated Frequency Coordination) is not part of Japan’s current rules – do not apply North American AFC concepts. Future spectrum updates may change costs.
·USB‑C charging‑state RF testing – some labs add RF performance tests under charging conditions – this is not a Giteki statutory requirement. Check the scope before paying – don’t treat optional add‑ons as mandatory.
·Change maintenance costs – the certificate is permanently valid as long as regulations are unchanged. Once you change transmit power, bands, antenna structure, or RF hardware – reassessment/retesting is required. Software/UI changes that do not alter RF parameters do not require retesting.
Even with hardware unchanged, if MIC updates ARIB standards, old‑standard certificates may not be accepted for new project declarations. Existing shipped products are unaffected – but longer‑term, you will need to update.
