EU 2017/79 eCall Certification Required Documents & Validity Calculation

2026-05-07

Clear material classification avoids redundant preparation for EU 2017/79 eCall certification.

1. Four Major Categories of Required Materials

① Company & Product Basic Documents

Business license, EU authorized representative appointment letter, product specification, system architecture diagram and BOM list (mark communication module, GNSS chip and backup battery).

② Technical Design & Compliance Documents

Hardware schematic, software flow chart, CAN bus integration document, backup battery design paper, EN 17184:2024 standard risk assessment report, OTA safety description (for NG eCall).

③ Test Reports

EMC, environmental reliability, communication & positioning performance, backup battery endurance and system self-test reports, issued by EU recognized third-party labs.

④ Production & Quality Control Documents

Production consistency control plan, ISO 9001/IATF 16949 certificate, equipment calibration and supplier audit records (for factory inspection standby).

  2. Certificate Validity Rules

·2026.01.01: Stop accepting new CS eCall applications

·2027.01.01: Invalid for certificates not complying with EN 17184:2024 & EN 17240:2024

·2028.01.01: Phase out CEN/TS transitional standard certificates

·Whole vehicle WVTA: Long valid with no design change; STU component certificate: 3-5 years

  3. Product Change Handling

·Minor change (software UI, non-core upgrade): Internal declaration only

·Core change (module, GNSS chip, communication protocol): Supplementary test & re-certification

  4. Document Preparation Tips

Ensure all components in documents are consistent with certification samples; comply with language requirements for manuals; keep test data consistent with technical descriptions to avoid review rejection.
