HDMI Compliance Certification Process & Timeline (2026 Latest)

2026-04-03

HDMI compliance is mandatory for market launch. Based on frontline experience with authorized test centers, we explain the complete certification process, realistic timeline, and key precautions for 2026 to help with project scheduling.

I. HDMI Compliance Certification Steps

1. Become an HDMI Adopter & Obtain Vendor ID

Registration as an official HDMI Adopter is mandatory. After submitting documents, paying the one-time initiation fee, and passing review, a unique Vendor ID is assigned. All testing, submissions, and certification are bound to this ID.

This stage takes several weeks; delays may occur if documents require revisions.

2. Product Preparation & Critical Form Submission

-Finalize hardware and software to ensure stable HDMI performance.

-Prepare two critical documents:

·CDF (Capability Declaration Form): Accurately list HDMI version, resolution, bandwidth, audio formats, and features.

·HDCP-related forms: Mandatory for content-protected products.

3. Submit Application to ATC & Establish Project

Submit product specifications, CDF, HDCP forms, and membership proof to an HDMI Authorized Test Center (ATC). After document review, the project is approved, and samples can be sent.

4. Formal Product Testing

Testing covers:

·Electrical performance (signal integrity, impedance, jitter)

·Protocol compliance (CEC, EDID, ARC/eARC)

·Mandatory HDCP encryption testing

·Optional EMI, bandwidth compatibility, and gaming features

Complex devices (high-version, 8K, automotive, multi-functional) take longer. Retesting after failure further extends timelines.

HDMI cables: Can be certified independently. Different lengths require separate certification. UHS cables typically take about 2 weeks if no failures occur.

5. Test Report Review & Official Final Audit

ATC issues a formal test report. The applicant submits the report via the HDMI Adopter Extranet for final review by the HDMI Forum.

6. Obtain Confirmation Letter & DCP Listing

After approval, a certification confirmation letter is issued. Product information is published on the official DCP database for customs, distributors, and customers to verify.

  II. Overall Timeline Summary

·Basic cables & simple devices: shorter cycles

·High-end terminals & new-spec products: longer cycles

·HDMI 2.2 projects with retesting: several weeks to months

Always allow buffer time for project scheduling.
