CB Product Safety Certification: Documents & Validity

2025-10-31

The CB Scheme simplifies global market entry by reducing duplicate testing. Here’s a breakdown of required documentation and certificate validity based on the latest information.

Required Documentation:

Document CategoryRequired FilesKey Points
Company CredentialsCB Application Form Use IECEE or NCB-specific forms. Accurately complete company and product details.
Business Licens

For applicant and manufacturer (if different, include an authorization letter).

Trademark Certificate/Authorization

Only one brand per application unit.
Technical Files

Product Manual

Circuit Diagrams & PCB Layouts

Product Structure & BOM

Critical Component Proof

In English or target market language; include safety warnings and key specifications.

Clearly identify critical components.

llustrate safety design; list all components, highlighting critical safety items.

CB Test Certificates or compliance evidence for fuses, power cords, etc.

Testing Support

Compliant Samples

Product Consistency Declaration

Usually 1–3 units matching mass production models.

Applicant declares that samples/technical files match mass-produced goods.

  CB Certificate Validity:

1.No Official Expiry: The IECEE doesn’t set a fixed validity period. However, certificates older than three years may face extra scrutiny or require additional data from NCBs.

2.Contingent on Stability: Validity depends on no changes to the product design, referenced standards, or critical components. Significant changes or standard updates necessitate re-evaluation.

  Process & Recommendations:

1.Plan Ahead: Discuss target markets with your NCB to include national differences in testing, saving time later.

2.Maintain Consistency: Ensure technical files and test samples exactly match mass-produced goods.

3.Monitor Standards: Track IEC standard revisions. Transition periods (usually 1–2 years) require updating product compliance; otherwise, older CB Reports become obsolete.
