Here is a guide to the required documents and validity for the Nigerian SONCAP Certificate of Conformity (SC), based on the latest 2025 information.
| Feature | Description |
| Core Purpose | Mandatory document for customs clearance of goods in Nigeria. |
| Issuance Prerequisite | Must have a valid Product Certificate (PC), and the importer must have obtained the Form M. |
| Certificate Validity | The certificate has no fixed expiry date, but it is tied to a single, specific shipment and is used for that batch's clearance. |
List of Documents Required for SC Application:
1.SC Application Form: Must be completed and stamped.
2.Declaration of Conformity: Must be hand-signed and stamped.
3.Product Certificate (PC): Provide an electronic copy of the approved PC.
4.Form M Document: Electronic copy provided by your Nigerian importer, obtained from their bank.
5.Power of Attorney: Must be in English.
6.Commercial Documents: Packing List and Commercial Invoice for the shipment.
7.Bill of Lading: Provide a copy.
SC Certification Process and New Regulation Interpretation:
1.Obtain Product Certificate (PC): This is the foundation. Choose from PC1, PC2, or PC3 based on product and export frequency, and obtain the PC (usually valid for 1 year).
2.Importer Applies for Form M: Your Nigerian partner uses the PC to apply for the Form M at their bank.
Apply for SC Certificate: After shipment, submit all the above documents. With complete documents, SC review is very fast, typically within 1 business day.
3.2025 Electronic Upgrade: Nigeria has implemented an electronic certification system integrated with customs (NICIS), making the process more efficient and transparent, speeding clearance and preventing forgery.
Important Note:
1.Severe Consequences of No Certificate: Regulated goods without a valid SONCAP certificate will be detained by Nigerian customs, preventing clearance. 2.Goods may be sampled and tested at the trader's expense, and if non-compliant, may be confiscated or destroyed.
