Indonesia SNI Certification for Water Pumps: What Has to Line Up

1. Check the Pump Against the Mandatory List First

Indonesia's Ministry of Industry issued regulation No. 7 of 2025 on 24 January 2025, bringing household electrical and electronic appliances into mandatory SNI, with effect from 24 July 2025. Water pumps and submersible pumps are both on the list. People working in pumps often assume mechanical products sit outside SNI and only find the standard blocking them when the file goes in. For pump projects, two things are worth clearing before work starts: whether the liquid temperature, single-phase voltage and power fall inside the prescribed bands, and whether the nameplate parameters line up with the customs code.

2. Scope and the Standard Version

For ordinary pumps, the scope covers household and similar use, with a liquid temperature not exceeding 90 degrees Celsius, single-phase voltage not exceeding 250 V and input electrical power not exceeding 1,000 W; vertical pumps and booster pumps are both inside it. Submersible pumps have a line of their own: single-phase voltage not exceeding 250 V with input power not exceeding 1,500 W, or an outlet diameter not exceeding 1.5 inches.

The codes normally run to 8413.70.42, 8413.70.91 and 8413.81.13, with submersible pumps under 8413.70.31. The Indonesian tariff schedule is revised from time to time, so treat those numbers as a reference and have the local importer confirm the code with customs before it is fixed; change the power band or the outlet diameter and the whole exercise starts again.

On standards, the general requirement is SNI IEC 60335-1:2020 and the pump-specific part is SNI IEC 60335-2-41:2010. The 2010 date is the Indonesian adoption year, corresponding to IEC edition 3.2, while IEC itself has moved on to edition 5 in 2024, two generations later. Test against whichever version the mandatory list carries rather than substituting the international number, and since the list moves, confirm the version before anything else. The local grid runs at 230 V / 50 Hz with two round-pin sockets, and older stock on the shelf is often marked 220 V, so new filings should be written at 230 V to keep the parameter columns consistent.

3. How the Certification Runs

Household appliances of this kind use the Type 5 assessment scheme in Indonesia: samples are tested, and the production process is audited and continuously assessed. In practice, continuous assessment means an annual surveillance audit, completed once in each year of the certificate's validity; miss it and the certificate is suspended. ISO 9001:2015 does not form a threshold. With the certificate, the factory audit takes fewer detours; without it, the same gate still has to be passed, and the auditor looks at the quality control on the line itself.

The work is divided across five parties: BSN sets the standards, the Ministry of Industry manages the mandatory list, KAN handles accreditation, the LSPro it accredits audits and issues, and laboratories produce test reports. Laboratories accredited by KAN in Indonesia and designated by the Ministry of Industry come first, and overseas laboratories that meet the mutual recognition conditions can also be used.

After the 2025 regulation, applications go through the Ministry of Industry's SIINAS system online, and the counters no longer accept them. Two documents come back. The SNI CoC is issued by the LSPro. The SPPT, which is the approval to use the SNI mark, is issued by the Ministry of Industry, and the applicant has to be either an Indonesian producer or the authorised representative appointed by an overseas factory. Both run to completion in SIINAS, and without either one a product cannot reach mainstream local channels.

An overseas factory cannot hold the certificate itself; a local Indonesian importer or representative has to act as the applicant. The trademark, local warehousing and import licence want settling alongside, because discovering after the tests pass that the applicant entity is not in place leaves no room to move.

4. Testing and What It Covers

Test items centre on safety: insulation resistance, withstand voltage, leakage current, earthing continuity, temperature rise, abnormal operation in the form of locked rotor and dry running without water, mechanical strength and sealing. Submersible pumps also have their ingress protection rating looked at.

5. The Timeline, and What Moves It

Budget three to six months overall, with testing itself at four to six weeks. The variable is the factory audit schedule, where the auditor travels to the site and the applicant carries the travel costs, and a wait of one to two months in peak season is nothing remarkable.

6. What Trips Projects Up

Temperature rise and abnormal operation fail most often. The winding temperature during the locked-rotor phase is a frequent cause of rejection, so leave enough margin in the structure and the protection design before the sample goes out rather than changing the board afterwards.

Nameplates and manuals take Indonesian first. An English version is not a substitute that passes, and the voltage, power and model on the nameplate have to match the sample tested.

Clearance is where the correspondence between certificate and marking is checked. The SNI mark and the certificate number are printed in the positions the documents specify, on the nameplate or the packaging, and where the number, the model and the certificate do not line up, the goods do not get in even once they reach port.

Transition arrangements need reading separately. Existing certificates have to be brought into line with the new rules within twelve months of the regulation taking effect, old stock has a separate distribution grace period, and new filings follow the current requirements in every case; a grace period is not schedule headroom. Standard years and audit positions both move, and treating an old file as a conclusion usually ends in rework.
