KC Safety Certification is South Korea’s mandatory safety certification for electrical and electronic products, regulated by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS). It is a legal requirement: any product that is electric, plug-in, or battery-powered and sold in South Korea must obtain this certification—no exceptions.
It focuses only on product safety, not wireless performance or electromagnetic interference.
In short, KC Safety ensures protection against electric shock, fire, overheating, and mechanical hazards. It is the mandatory safety pass for entering the Korean market. Without it, products cannot be listed on Korean e-commerce platforms, sold offline, or cleared through customs. Non-compliance leads to seizure, fines, and forced recalls.
Nearly all electrical products fall under the scope:
1.Home appliances: rice cookers, kettles, hair dryers, humidifiers
2.Consumer electronics: chargers, power banks, desk lamps, adapters
3.Small appliances: vacuum cleaners, fans, heaters, massagers
4.Industrial & office electrical equipment: power supplies, lighting, small devices
5.Battery products: lithium batteries, energy storage power supplies, battery packs
Purely mechanical, non-electrical products are generally exempt. Any product with circuits, batteries, or heating functions requires KC Safety.
II. Core KC Safety Test Items (2026 Actual Tests)
KC Safety does not evaluate signals or interference—it only verifies basic safety:
1.Electric shock protection: insulation and structure must prevent user contact with live parts
2.Temperature rise & flammability: operating temperatures within limits; materials must be flame-retardant
3.Leakage, overload, and short-circuit protection: no fire, explosion, or shock under abnormal conditions
4.Mechanical strength & housing integrity: no cracking, loosening, or sharp edges
5.Korean labeling & manual warnings: rated voltage, power, safety alerts, and recycling symbols required
III. KC Safety vs. KC EMC vs. KC RF
Many manufacturers confuse these three certifications:
·KC Safety: electrical safety; mandatory for all electrical products
·KC EMC: electromagnetic compatibility; required for most electronics
·KC RF: radio frequency compliance; only for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wireless transmission devices
Most electrical products need KC Safety + KC EMC. Wireless products require all three.
IV. 2026 Key Updates for KC Safety
1.Standards are updated frequently, especially for lithium batteries, adapters, and heating products.
2.Only the KC mark is used; the old EK mark is no longer valid.
3.KC marking must appear on the product, packaging, or manual; Korean instructions are mandatory.
4.Certificates are long-term valid unless product design, circuits, or critical components change.
